what editing program fits s.besten to the recordings of the GS500?

Question only because I have many of the problems with the processing
heard. Or would the choice no preference?

And how about you play your movies, Firewire or USB?

Since the GS500 DV recording just like any other DV cameras: Absolutely no preference and only of the desired functionality.
