an appropriate sound card, the recording quality improved?

the quoted question I can answer with a clear yes. Like almost everywhere there are good things for good money and cheap stuff for all to find the horny avarice. ;-)
Sound cards are different as all audio devices through various performances such as the signal to noise ratio, ie how strongly the internal noise of the hardware component to the useful signal (here, the language) hears.
A concrete Microphone for your project (Language = mono!) I can not tell you, but I have a tip for the Recording: If you sit directly in front of the calculator being registered, Microphone-synonymous to hard disks and fan noise. That would be certainly not so great.
In the past I've talked to my comments Spulentonbänder, then on MiniDisc and today ... I try to find someone who speaks to me the comment and has his own recording studio. ;-)
