Hello,
a distortion-free and proportional right background to get you have to 768x576 square pixels (24 bit color depth) take.
In the manual it is suggested that the lossless PNG format. You can, however, TIF or BMP synonymous take - it works well. Compression formats like JPG are unsuitable.

Your linked PowerPoint presentation reveals, however, beyond what I wanted. "olliwu" had with no mention what format he / she is processed, which is to answer the question but would have been important.
