The number of megapixels is totally irrelevant, if you really want to buy and not a camera / cell phone with video function. That would only play a role if you are synonymous with the photos want.
Otherwise you have to consider whether you have a normal or have an HD-like. Under normal camcorders, I would imagine a miniDV with recommended ie Filmed on miniDV tape-recorded and has been a Resolutionvon 720x576 (with an aspect ratio of 4:3). If it is now quite favorable type.
With an HD camera, there are essentially these two possibilities:

SD require image converter with high Resolutionnur for the photo mode. For mobile phones, the trend for more and more mega pixels in image converter still on. HD seem MPixel of mania, however, is not synonymous excluded.
