The DV format has a data rate of about 3.6 MB / sec. A film of 90 minutes length is around 19 GB. It would be pointless to burn DV-AVI to DVD, because no DVD player can play it.
DVDs work with MPEG2 compression. The MPEG2 format on a DVD is much more compressed (but thus synonymous something qualitatively worse).
You can always encode your film s.PC to MPEG2 and then a DVD Author. The data rate (quality / space requirements) You can set himself (as s.DVD recorder so synonymous).
A DVD is not a substitute for archiving to DV tapes.
